I'm off to Kola, Russia soon, so having Spey casting lessons to brush up my Single Spey, Double Spey, Snap T, Snake Rolls and everything else. You never practice with a real hook so for lesson 1 we did the usual - tying on a bit of wool. And as usual, it kept falling off. So for lesson 2, I tied a bit of fritz on a straight shank (no hook!). My instructor was so impressed, he asked me to tie a dozen for his other students. Now the Willy Gunn is a famous fly.....so once I realised I was tying Fake Willys......the whole thing turned into an enormous joke! Here is what awaits my instructor for Lesson 3 !!
