Polar Prawn

My Polar Prawn started as an experiment to make the Francis Fly a little more realistic. Since then it has been quite successful, both as a fishing fly and as a popular choice for a Ladies Brooch.

The flies here are Sz8 and Sz12. They are tied on Fulling Mill Magni hooks. The main feelers are brown feather stalks with a little red bucktail. The mouth feelers are brown calf (kip) tail. The eyes are made from 70lb saltwater shock leader which is melted using a lighter and then coloured with a permanent marker. The body is red wool and the legs are two cock hackles, places face to face, stripped on one side and then tied in using the gold oval tinsel rib - think Matuka-style but with the feather on the bottom and the barbs facing backward.
