Bloody Executioners

The Executioner was first tied by Brian Gent as a brighter version of the Stoat's Tail. The Executioner has a strong reputation as a summer fly for clear low water or dusky conditions. My version adds colour in the wing and it can be used earlier towards the end of spring or when the water is a still little coloured when fining down. It makes a great change fly when a Cascade or Ally's shrimp isn't working. The fly is also easy to tie in small sizes, when just the wing tips are red.

The Bloody Executioner is tied on a Fulling Mill Magni double hook. The tail is golden pheasant crest, the tag and tail are silver oval tinsel and the body is half red half black floss. The beard is black cock and the wing is blood-red-dyed Fox Squirrel tail. The head is highlighted with Kreinik blending filament in vintage red and varnished.
